Penis Week Part 2-- Male Masturbation

Story time! Everyone sit around the proverbial fire while I tell you the story of creation (at least what the ancient Egyptians believed).

The great and powerful Atum god of the sun and earth emerged from the life giving waters of Nun. He was feeling kind of lonely and decided to have a little fun with himself. So, sitting on the magical banks of Nun he played his flesh flute and ejaculated into the river to form his two children, Shu, god of the air and Tefnut, god of rain. Then to make a long story short-- a lot of crazy fetishy sexy times were had-- and that created the world as we know it.

Moral of the story masturbation is awesome.

Let's explore male masturbation myths, rumors and nonsensical claims, shall we?

You'll grow hair on your palms!

Most people don't have hair follicles on their palms. Touching any part of your body, including hair, will not cause you to grow or lose any hair elsewhere on your body.

You'll get warts!

Warts are caused by a virus, not masturbation. It's possible (though unlikely) to spread warts from your hands to your genitals, but masturbating will not CAUSE the virus.

You'll become sterile!

You can make an infinite amount of sperm-- It's not like you're gonna suddenly run out.

You'll turn gay!

While there are a variety of theories as to why people are homosexual, none of them involve masturbation. Guess what? Out of homosexuals, bisexuals and heterosexuals, no specific orientation has been shown to masturbate more than another.

Masturbating is for lame nerds who can't get any

Actually, a lot of people masturbate, whether they're in a relationship, single or it's complicated, either when they're alone or for each other.

The experience should be saved for a significant other!

This one is more of an individual decision. While I'm not going to sway you, I will point this out: Just think of how much nicer it'll be when you can tell your significant other exactly how you like to be touched.

Once I start masturbating, I'll become addicted!

While habit-forming, for most people it's not addictive. There is no physical and usually no psychological dependence on masturbation. Masturbation does release addictive endorphins, but so do chocolate and roller coasters. If masturbation becomes part of your routine, it's because you've grown accustomed to it. Unless masturbation sessions interfere with other aspects of your life, you can stop without any treatment or counseling if you seriously have the desire. However, why in the world would you WANT to stop?

My friends will be really mean to me if they find out I masturbate!

First of all, your friends don't need to know. Secondly, if they do somehow find out, they may laugh, but there's a good chance they do it themselves once in a while.

Masturbation is disgusting!

This is another individual decision. However, I will point out that there are far more disgusting things that provide far less pleasure.

Masturbation causes blindness.

I'm sure everybody's heard this one, but just for the record: There is no connection between your vision and your reproductive system.

So, are you totally over the fear of masturbating yet? Oh, you were before you started reading this?

In all seriousness, masturbation has been around for centuries. Last week we focused more on female masturbation, so we felt that we should touch on men’s alone times too.

I’m no expert on male masturbation. I’m not afraid to admit it, but it’s not from lack of trying. I have tried to get all my partners to be open about what they do when I’m not around. Not because I’m worried that they are not thinking of me while they do it. (I know for a fact that they are looking at porn or a centerfold and quite frankly so am I.)

Well then! Let's talk technique! We suggest that penis-owners who masturbate incorporate lubricants into their play. A lack of lube can lead some people to masturbate with tight grips in order to stimulate themselves. Some men report that this can result in desensitization to the physical feelings of partnered sexual activity, making it more difficult to orgasm and/or maintain erections during partnered play.

For a fun twist on a steamy night of self love, you can also try rubbing and pressing your perineum to stimulate your prostate externally.

You can also incorporate anal play into your solo experiences. Before you get all indignant-- it should be noted that not all anal play is penetrative, in that many people enjoy stimulating their anus with either fingers or toys.  However, many people also enjoy anal penetration, which can range from light teasing to prostate massage to full-on fucking.

To find your prostate with your fingers, insert one or two (depending on your comfort level) into your ass in a position that allows you to curl your fingers in the direction of your belly.  Towards your belly is where your prostate lies, usually a couple of inches within the rectum.  Initially, you might find that you lose your erection upon first stimulating your prostate.  This is completely natural, and requires only that you continue playing with your penis to regain an erection.

Lastly, some people find that incorporating sex toys into their masturbation to be incredibly exciting and pleasurable.  There is a multitude of masturbation sleeves that can be bought online or at your local sex toy shops.  These masturbation sleeves can be reusable, such as the Fleshlight, or they can be intended for single-use, such as Tenga Eggs. Masturbation sleeves come in a wide variety of sizes, textures, and materials, so you may want to do some research and read reviews before opting for a specific one.

Just recently, I think, a masturbation revolution has started to occur. Women have a bunch of sex toys (most women I know have sex chests filled with wonderful goodies) and I think men are finally starting to get jealous.

In the past couple years the meager couple of toys available for male pleasure has grown exponentially. Masturbation sleeves in all shapes, sizes and textures. Vibrators for men not just for the cock but for your balls as well! Crazy slick lube cock rings. A whole world of possibilities is opening up.’

The reason why I really want to know is two fold.

First off, I want to know their technique. What feels good to them, so I can try to incorporate that in our bedroom activities as well as any fantasies they might have that we can role play

Secondly and most importantly, I’m curious. Male anatomy has always fascinated me, I like to watch the penis grow (like one of those time lapse cameras of a plant growing in fast motion.) I want to know the who, what, where, when, how and why’s.

Just because.

And also, to share it with you lovely folks, so that I can spread the love.

Masturbation is something that almost every guy does, but they don’t really talk about it.

Not really.

Growing up, I had a lot of male friends and the only time that subject came up is talking about someone walking in on them. Technique, porn preferences, fantasies-- nothing like that was ever discussed. Sure, some of it might be because I am a girl, but I think most guys are too embarrassed to talk about it.
